It’s A New Year Coming

Published December 26, 2016

It’s not that hard to figure out that Christmas has changed.  Once, a long time ago you would wake up to Christmas morning, open your few gifts and wait for dinner to be served. And as many people of that generation, you would right now be saying, life was simple then. Yes, indeed it was. Whoever thought that a parent would buy a $500 iPhone for their three year old? It even scares me that there are parents that purchase a brand new, shall I say it, expensive, automobile for their sixteen year old for Christmas. No, I’m not […]

Christmas Lights

Published December 20, 2016

Are you feeling it? Excitement is growing every hour. Is everything ready? No? Is the list getting smaller? The tree is up, lights on outside and inside, decorations all around, and, and, opps , just remembered another thing for the list. Okay, another trip to the store. Did you take notice how the children are behaving lately? Little do they know all the presents are bought, sorted, wrapped, labeled and ready for them to tear into. In the not too distant future they will learn gifts are not contingent on their behaviour but our love for them. The Christmas displays, […]

Plum Pudding & All That Stuff

Published December 5, 2016

Are you counting the days yet? When you read this, take stock of what you need to get done and make a plan. The old saying is true, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail”. Go ahead; tell me I’m too organized. Not true or my desk would be clean and everything would have a hiding place. But it is true that you need to plan if you want to get everything done that you need to get done. So, let’s get started. Here is my own personal plan. Well, not all of it but you will get […]

IT’S FREE! GOT IT? FREE

Published November 28, 2016

AAAAAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.  Sorry, I had to get it out.  Early this morning I sat down in the office and opened my email account. It’s Monday by the way, and not just any Monday but Cyber Monday. Which means out of thirty four emails, twenty eight were trying to sell me something. If that isn’t bad enough, the flyers in the mailbox have outgrown the mailbox. I assume you are experiencing something similar in your life as well. It’s now full blown Christmas. Or as I think of it, ‘spending time’.  We are totally bombarded with ads trying to help us spend […]

Signal Your Intentions

Published November 21, 2016

When you’re driving, do you use your directional indicators? I mean, all the time. Just asking. You know what they are right? They are that option in the car that you have always called blinkers or flashers. Most cars have them on the left side of the top of the steering column right under the wheel. Push it down to let people know you are turning left and push it up to let them know you intention is to go right. That’s the thing I’m asking about. The reason I’m asking is, so many people seemed to have never ordered […]

Crumbling Life

Published November 14, 2016

It was sad to see it gone. After all, it had been there longer than anyone on this earth has been alive. Once it had been the centre of the neighbourhood and it was tall enough up on that hill so you always knew where you were just by looking in its direction. Yes, it was a church. Built to the glory of God and used for just that purpose. It represented all we may believe. Just like God, it was strong. When you entered, light coming through its stained glass was reminiscent of the rainbow, or sunrises and sunsets […]

Come Fly With Me

Published November 6, 2016

Just like Bernie, I really love to fly. When I was young, read that twenty something, I made the decision to take flying lessons. It was one of my dreams at the time. Unfortunately, my pay didn’t provide enough cash for a family of three and flying lesson each week. Never did finish those wonderful amazing lessons. Still, over the years I have continued to enjoy flying, even from a passenger seat. Sorry to those who are not fond of flying, but there is just something about it that changes me each time we lift off. My heart beats stronger […]

One Big Eraser

Published November 2, 2016

We all have lives that twist and turn. We might even think of life as navigating a maze. Most of the time we don’t know where we are going, or for that matter, where we have been. Even with five senses we have trouble, and some just seem to get it first time around. A typical thought for me at 2am and not being able to sleep. Maybe I have too much time on my hands and too many thoughts that clog the mind while going in so many directions. I remember seeing a video of a mouse trying to […]

Changes

Published October 29, 2016

One delight of living in a world created by God is, it has so many things to explore. Every one of them can and should bring a smile to our faces, and excitement to our lives. I heard that! There really is and our seasons are one of the best evidences of that. Here is my short list.  Fall is definitely upon us and the leaves are falling. Well, in most of the province but not entirely here in the Hamilton area. It’s called fall for a reason but before they fall we have this amazing display of unimaginable colour […]

Not All Change is Good

Published October 17, 2016

I was noticing so many changes around the city lately. And not just my home town of Stoney Creek but every other town or city I have had the pleasure of driving through. Even many sleepy towns are changing. That usually brings us to that famous question, “Is change good?” Many of us, presumably the older generation, don’t think so. The young people who are inheriting that past think it’s old, outdate and just needing replacement. That’s okay with me but I hope they don’t mean us as well.  Remember part of the town that has stood for generations? Consider […]
